Cable Coax Internet Delivery

Coaxial Cable.MontanaSky provides High Speed (Broadband), Internet delivered via Coaxial Cable (Coax) or Optical Fiber. The majority of our residential customers are connected via Coax.

Ethernet CableOnce in the home, the Coax must connect to a Modem. The Modem converts the Coax signal into an Ethernet signal.  Ethernet Cables are what most wired devices use to connect on a Local Area Network (LAN).

In order to connect multiple devices, the Modem must connect to a Router.  Most Routers have several Ethernet ports for hard wired connections, and offer WiFi for wireless devices.  Modem / Router combos are also available, which combine both functions into one device.

Troubleshooting Slow Internet Speeds

MontanaSky’s Support Techs will check everything on our end, but before you call there are a few things you can check on your end that can save you time (and possibly money).

Turn off all WiFi devices, Game boxes, TV streaming devices, and computers other than the one you’re going to test with. After you have turned off all internet devices, except for the one you will test with, you may perform a Speed Test. https://speedtest.montanasky.net

It’s best to run this test on a virus-free, up-to-date PC or MAC connected with an Ethernet cable directly to your modem or modem router combo. The next best device would be a high quality iPhone or Android device (an old or slow device will not get accurate results), using a speed test app from https://speedtest.montanasky.net
